Glastonbury FM, the local non-profit radio station with the community at its heart, is officially re-launching this October.

The radio station has been on hiatus from live broadcasting for three months now, as it has been on the move from its residence at Glastonbury Football Club to more solid foundations at The Red Brick Building.

However, the station has not been off-air as it has been blasting out pre-recorded shows 24/7 during the move.

Live broadcasting will recommence on October 15 and on October 21 the station directors will be inviting locals in during The Red Brick Building Open Day to look around and to learn about the station.

Allan Trinder, Glastonbury FM Director, wants to get the message out that this is a community central organisation with local people at its heart.

He said: "The station has evolved into a community central organisation over the years, and that's a really nice thing.

"We encourage community groups to come along and broadcast with us; for instance we have had Glastonbury's Scout and Brownie groups broadcasting and we regularly see The Wells Bookworms – a group of local children who love reading and they will review a books for us."

"We have lots of different music shows on the station as well. The station has a good balance of community centred news and a variety of music played by local music lovers."

The organisation is completely non-profit and run entirely by local volunteers and the directors are always on the look-out for new ones.

Not only do they need people willing to present shows, they also need volunteer reporters, local news and feature gatherers, IT whizzes, admin support and marketing professionals.

John Carroll, Glastonbury FM Director and Founder, has said that he has seen some of his volunteers go on to greater things, using the station as a stepping stone into a broadcasting career:

"The whole aim of this project is to involve local people and give them a chance to develop their skills.

"We have had a number of our volunteers go on to work for national broadcasting organisations.

"A guy called Rob Mayor has gone on to work at Heart FM and Charlie Taylor is now at the BBC, and we have seen a few more move up the ranks as well.

"A lot of our volunteers are from local colleges like Strode where they're doing media courses. I think this gives them a great opportunity to get involved and get some experience with a live radio station."

You can tune in To Glastonbury FM on 107.1 FM and the station broadcasts anywhere within a ten mile radius of Glastonbury's Red Brick Building including Wells, Street, Glastonbury and the outskirts of Shepton Mallet.

Soon you will also be able to listen to Glastonbury FM live online from anywhere in the country by visiting their website or by using the Tune In application on your mobile phone.
