Top five Sunday roast pubs in and around Wells

It is every Englishman's right to
-
Where in and around Wells would you recommend as having the best Sunday roast?
enjoy a hearty Sunday roast come rain or shine and while it's comforting to
have the heady aromas and billowing warmth from your oven during the colder
months, I find it wiser during a heat wave to leave the cooking to the experts!
In no particular order, here are
our top five picks where we have recently enjoyed a sumptuous roast, do the
results tally with your own experience or have we missed-out on somewhere even
better?
The Britannia Inn – The lovely
landlord is very kind and keen to ensure that everything is to your liking. The
tasty portions are very generous too. Particularly recommended for families
with younger children because an empty child's plate is exchanged for a portion
of free ice-cream and a big smile.
Castle of Comfort – Large portions
in the extreme of delicious food, always a warm welcome and luscious ales on
tap.
Waggon & Horses – Our tester
tried this pub in the evening and found it to be as full as the other pubs in
the daytime showing that as long as the pubs are prepared to serve Sunday
roast, us locals are willing to eat them! The meal was delicious and arrived in
record-breaking time.
Horse & Jockey – Very popular
and very well-priced roasts including turkey in addition to the standard 3
options. The excellent hosts are celebrating their 10th year at the
pub this month.
Fountain Inn – Arguably, the
finest Sunday roast available at a local pub. Prices are more 'restaurant than
pub' but then so is the quality of cuisine, the size of the restaurant is slightly
modest so booking in advance is essential.
If you'd like to suggest other
pubs you think serve even better Sunday roasts, then please correct us below, I
love having your recommendations and I'm looking to skive out of kitchen duties
again this weekend ;)
