Wells Big Day Out a roaring success!

Wells folks did the city proud on Saturday, volunteering their time & skills to provide a very special day out of the City.

It was clear that both Christians Together in the Wells Area (CTWA) and the Wells Blue Sports Centre had given the event their all, along with a huge number of Wells clubs and organisations, all giving their time for free to give the community a special celebration of local talent.

For a full list of the local institutions which kindly shared their time and expertise see our preview article here.

The wonderful catering team provided a seemingly endless supply of luscious homemade cakes and worked some magic with the bottomless tea urns and coffee pots. There were also pork rolls being offered well into the afternoon.

Regular refreshment was a must because everyone was throwing themselves into the activities with gusto. The athletics events, performing arts and numerous sporting activities available proved very popular. I can only hope that the majority of the participants don't ache as much as I did the morning after?!

Such a great turnout meant plenty of photo opportunities so if you want to see if you can see yourself, take a look at the galleries here and here.

It's early days yet, but I hope this becomes an annual event in the city calendar, if you agree – let us know below.

On Facebook, Carron Garden wrote: Loved the Wells Big Day Out. A day full of activities and inspiration for young people and all totally free - even the delicious food.Completely uncommercial, with not so much as a burger van in sight - something which is very, very rare these days. And it was all brilliantly well organised, too. Hope they do it all again next year.
