Wells City Councillor and County Council leader John Osman secured the funding with his bid for Wells City Council
Somerset County Council awarded the money to Wells City Council from the latest round of 'Community Enablement Grants' after a successful bid from Leader of Somerset County Council and County Councillor for Wells, John Osman.
Councillor Osman said: "I'm delighted that we can provide this funding to the City Council which will allow them to purchase the necessary equipment to maintain grass verges, keep paths clear and provide highways services to Wells for an initial period of five years.
"We will be working closely with The City Council as they begin to deliver these services and I'm certain they will do an excellent job."
Another £29,000 from the fund has also been allocated to Glastonbury Town Council and Frome Town Council.
Cabinet Member for Resources, Cllr David Huxtable said: "It's been fantastic to see that there are so many community based organisations in Somerset that are eager to get involved in the delivery of services in their own communities.
"I'm delighted that the Community Enablement Fund has allowed us to support them to do just that."
