The 53-year-old politician was given a brief taste of cadet life and tried her hand at archery with the young trainees.
She also chatted with cadets from the Somerset Cadet Battalion which trains around 1,000 cadets between the ages of twelve and eighteen throughout the county.
The cadets taught Tessa about target-shooting the correct procedure when cleaning their rifles.
Yoxter Camp, near Wells, is one of the country's largest voluntary youth organisations and is set on top on the Mendips.
She said: "I had a fantastic day with the Cadets and I am amazed by the range of activities they get to try.
"It is a fantastic learning experience and I would urge more youngsters to sign up."

She won't get my vote any time soon - as she supports the Badger cull.
