Below is my list of Wells' 2012 highlights and memorable moments captured and covered by Wells People.
1. Swans of Wells for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations
The whole nation was celebrating the Queen's Diamond Jubilee last June, but the Wells celebrations could be said to have out-graced them all when the stunning 5ft Jubilee Swans, decorated by local artists flocked to the town.
Of course local shops were decked out with Union Jacks and the celebratory bunting was out in force, but nothing could rival this stunning trail of sculptures adorning the City.

2. The Olympic Torch Relay – the flame travels through Wells.
The Olympic torch travelling through Somerset had the county glowing with British pride and the people of Wells were no exception when it was their turn to host the famous flame.
Streets were packed with thousands of emotional local onlookers on 22 May 2012 as the torch made its way through the smallest city in the UK.

3. The Wells Moat Boat Race 2012
This classic boat race around the moat of the Bishop's Palace has become one of the most anticipated events on the Wells calendar.
This year saw a huge armada of serious raft racers take to the water, some adorned in wonderful fancy dress, and some soaked to the bone within a minute of jumping in the boat.

Originally a 'one off event' to celebrate the 2012 London Olympic Games, the Wells Big Day Out was deemed such a roaring success that a repeat has been scheduled for the summer of 2013.
The event saw hundreds of local people flock to the Wells Blue Sports Centre to try out a plethora of different sporting activities available in Wells including Tae Kwon Do, Skittles and Tennis.
