    Vandals caused serious damage to cars and properties in Wells last week. Overnight between March 8 and 9 a number of vehicles and properties were damaged in areas around Bath Road, Sadler Street, Broad Street, St Thomas Street and St Andrews Street.     Police raided a house in St Cuthbert Street, Wells and seized a number of cannabis plants. Officers raided the property at 1.30pm yesterday, Wednesday March 6. Eight mature cannabis plants were discovered along with a hydroponic growing set-up.

    Police are attempting to trace an escaped prisoner who they believe may be in the Somerset area. John Loveridge , aged 28, absconded from HMP North Sea Camp in Lincolnshire on Monday February 11. He was jailed in 2011 for offences including burglary and theft. Loveridge is described as white, around 5ft 8 to 5ft 9 inches tall, of a slim build, with short black hair and hazel coloured eyes.     A local man has been charged with an assault that occurred in Wookey 13 years ago. Clive Edwards, 58 from Wookey, was charged with GBH with intent today and is due to appear at Yeovil Magistrates Court on March 14. The assault took place during April 2000 and the victim suffered serious leg injuries.     Police are asking second-hand shops and antique dealers to be vigilant after valuable 18th century furniture was stolen from a church near Wells. Thieves forced their way into St Lawrence Church's vestry in Westbury-sub-Mendip stealing a chest, a table and two chairs.
