A BBC Somerset report this morning suggests that Mendip District Council has spent £100,000 on legal advice prior to the latest planning inquiry to decide whether Wells will get up to 2 new supermarkets. It is considered unlikely that the fees paid will be claimable from the successful developers.

    Not to worry eh? The newly increased rates bills of 2 or 3 local pubs will pay for this! It's a perfect use of our cash, who wants to see hospitals being better funded or, at the other end of the 'importance' scale, flagstones instead of tarmac being used on the market place, when we can put the money to much better use talking about supermarkets...
