Hi all.
I am not sure if people in Wells are aware but BANES has approved a planning application at Stowey Quarry. So why should we be concerned in Wells? Because it is for the dumping of non-nuclear hazardous waste believed to be asbestos. Stowey Quarry is around 1.5 to 2 miles uphill form Chew Valley lake, and has natural springs whose water feeds into the lake, so potentially hazardous waste could find its way into the lake and into the water supply provided by Bristol Water and supplying Wells and the surrounding villages. SO if you are a little concerned about what seems to me to be a crazy planning decision you may wish to sign the on-line petition and register your objections with BANES. Here are some links.

There is also a Facebook page called Stop Stowey Quarry with information about the plans.
