These boys were enthralled when they Wells' very own 'Spontaneous Poet' Boots Bantock by the Bishops Palace Moat this afternoon.

Boots Bantock conjuring a web of metre and rhyme and inspiring future poets with his craft
The charming wordsmith demanded 3 words from each of them which he then weaved into a verbal creation on the spot with great skill and poise.
What a wonderful character! Did anyone else happen to bump into him in the glorious weather today?

ReportBlimey! Boots Bancock doesn't look young enough to have both his parents around, but I'm glad they were keeping an eye on him. The lord works in mysterious ways!

ReportHappy to reassure you your reverence that the parents were standing alongside but I didn't include them in the photo ;)

ReportMaybe all that would have achieved is to deprive your kids of a harmless bit of fun?
I remember when I was about the age of the boys in this photo and an old guy stopped to chat to me and my mates while we were looking at the night sky. He ended up spending around 15 minutes telling us about the planets and stars and I was enthralled; that was the beginning of my love affair with all things science and I've never forgotten it; even 35'ish years later I can still clearly picture his face, although the chap will sadly be long gone by now.
This brief encounter might be all it takes to turn one of these boys into a poetry lover, or even a great poet? Or it might just result in one minute of laughing that they quickly forget, but either way, you shouldn't rob your kids of potentially life-changing experiences just because of your own prejudices? It's characters like Boots that make the world far more interesting for everyone...

ReportIf that was my kids I'd have given him two words - and the second one would have been "off".
