Wells is once again being featured in a
blockbusting movie, as the film crew for Jack The Giant Killer has moved in.
Scaffolding has been put up at Wells
Cathedral opposite Vicars Close and JTGK signs have been put up around the city
for the filming of the movie which will star Ewan McGregor, Ian McShane, Nicholas
Hoult, Bill Nighy, Stanley Tucci and Ewen Bremner.
There were rumours that Ewan McGregor was
going to be in Wells on Sunday, but as yet there are no confirmed sightings of
any of the stars.
It is not known if any will be in the city
as the movie features lots of special effects, and filming is also taking place
in Cheddar and Bourne Woods in Surrey.
Jack The Giant Killer is a modern day fairy
tale in which the long-standing peace between men and giants is threatened, as
a young farmer leads an expedition into the giants’ kingdom in hopes of rescuing
a kidnapped princess.
Details are still scarce about the movie as
it will not be released until June 15, 2012, but it is known that Hoult will
play Jack, McShane plays King Brahmwell, and Nighy is a character called
Fallon.
It is being directed by Bryan Singer, who
also directed The Usual Suspects, X-Men, X-Men 2 and Superman Returns.
This film looks like being a summer
blockbuster next year and could put Wells in the limelight much like Hot Fuzz
did.
