Mid-Somerset show 2010 - what a cracker!

As the sun made a welcome reappearance on Sunday it seemed the perfect opportunity to get the family out of the house beyond to the wide open country to get a good few lungfuls of fresh air at the Mid-Somerset set show.

Waitrose hands out goodie bags to what it hopes are potential new customers
There was a huge range of local exhibitors and it represented a great opportunity to celebrate the talents of local residents performing in the Show Jumping, Domestic & Agricultural animal shows.
Waitrose were also notable by their presence, perhaps trying to raise their local profile to strengthen their bid to open a new store in Wells? Young children had great fun attempting to ‘milk’ their model cow with rubber teats which could, with the correct technique, be coaxed to produce a milky substance into the bucket below – udderly brilliant!
Wells MP Tessa Munt and partner David, a farmer from Wedmore looked relaxed as they met a whole host of local people. Mrs Munt commented she would be unlikely to make a formal statement regarding recent allegations considering them utterly without grounds as she stressed the facts had been twisted and no wrong-doing had taken place. Having returned from a 10 day break overseas, she was looking forward to getting stuck into the duties of her office rather than allowing her agenda to be distracted by attempts to muddy the water.
Following Bath rugby’s victory over Ulster in a friendly on Friday, Wells resident and Bath Rugby player Danny Grewcock was also on very good form commenting that he was very encouraged by the team’s performance at the 1st friendly match as he had his photo taken with these two young fans (see above).
The Wurzels also made a welcome return to the show and much stomping, dancing and singing ensued. Local celebrity known only as ‘Skootaman’ said: “Never have I felt as ‘Zummerzet’ as when I sat in the baking sun, with a pint of scrumpy and some mature cheddar, listening to the Wurzels.”
Did you make it along this year? Am I right in thinking it was the busiest for years? If you have some photos to share, don’t be shy, upload them to the gallery for us all to enjoy & see you there next year!

It was a really good show, but the baking heat made it tough going for the little ones! I was disappointed by the lack of real ale though - I had to drink cider :)
