With the clear aim to raise as much money as possible, a group of djembe drummers entertained visitors to Wells Market Square on Sunday with their exciting yet hypnotic rhythms.

They will also be performing between 12:30 and 3pm on the following two Sundays: the 1st & 8th of August as part of a 3-week festival at the peak of the tourist season to raise money for the Save the Children’s Earthquake Appeal.

Dee Price, wife of the Bishop of Bath and Wells, the Rt Rev Peter Price, is a patron of Save the Children so they were very supportive of the group playing in the Market Square and are hoping to be able to attend one of the forth-coming events

Next week sees the return of a few of the more-experienced players from their holidays and so promises to be a truly spectacular aural and visual event.

The group is lead by the highly-accomplished Steve Harrison, who is a specialist tutor as well as a very talented musician. He is is hoping to start a Djembe Drumming class in Wells for anyone interested. He is also experienced at running corporate team-building events through djembe drumming and can be contacted on 07827812939 or via his email cloudsong@btinternet.com

He lists some of the benefits of learning the technique as: development of balance between mid & body, righthand/lefthand hand-to-hand co-ordination, encouragement of participation in group fun, development of non-verbal self-expression and positivity, learning how to work as part of a team, generates good feeling in self through rhythm and repetitive meditation. You can enjoy personal results as well as the collaborative/group effort.

His next chance for you to participate will be held on the 15th of August at Glastonbury Assembly Rooms for beginners to intermediate level 12:30 - 4:30 workshop, cost £20, contact details as above.
