    Pub giant J D Wetherspoon has gone on a charm offensive as it prepares for another attempt to move into Wells, Somerset. The pub company wants to take over the former bus station and Emporium building and the firm has been trying to persuade residents and business people that it should have the freedom to come to the city, staging an appeal while the council announced Olympic legend Mary Rand would have the freedom of the city.
