Wells May Fair the best for years!

Wells was blessed with blue skies for nearly the whole event yesterday and a huge crowd descended on the Cathedral Green to enjoy one of our community’s finest knees-up.

The Maypole, Wells May Fair 2010
The event, run by Wells Action to raise funds for worthy causes in Wells & the surrounding villages, had a wonderful live music line-up including the Mangledwurzels & the Chris Jagger Trio.
There was a great Maypole dancing display by Stoberry Park & St Theresa’s & St Joseph’s Primary schools whose enthusiasm and professionalism suggested that months of practise had gone into the performance.
Town Crier, Len Sweales’s voice was heard echoing around the Market Square as he introduced the performers with Mayor Christina Borastero and Maurice Day did a wonderful job MC’ing on the main stage.
The Cathedral Green was covered in an array of colourful diversions for the children including a huge inflatable slide by Mendip Slides and teacup rides.
My youngest son put quite a bit of quality research at the cake stall and confirmed that the range was up to the usual high standard. I can also add that the Potholer from Cheddar Ales was in excellent condition, as was Thatchers cider & the rest of Wells seemed to agree with me because the bar was drunk dry by the end of the day!
We shall have an update from Wells Action on how much was raised as soon as they have had a chance to count all the money.
