I really think since the event is partly raising funds from Bishop Peter`s charity. There should be more involvement of parish churches, across the Diocese.Perhaps a church choir contest on the bandstand in the park

Oh, thanks for that information, i will let the Lions Club know. Perhaps that is just the amount of years they have been kindly volunteering their time to organise it, and help raise the profile of Wells, and give everyone a great day out?

You are wrong about the event being nine years. The event was started by the St Thomas Youthfellowship. In the early seventies and at that time it was a much bigger event

It's that time of the year again when local groups don their thinking caps to design a raft for The Wells Moat Boat Race to be held at The Bishops Palace on Bank Holiday Monday 30th August, 2010. 'thebestofwells' are working in partnership with the Lions Club, to promote the Event.
'The Best of Wells' - we just have this information regarding the moat race currently, via the Lions Club......This event, is in it's 9th year and continues to grow in size and popularity and all the rafts are home built with some crews taking part in fancy dress.
In the adjacent park there will be a variety of stalls to suit all and weather permitting there will be a hot air balloon launch in the Palce Fields about 6pm.
This event is organised by City of Wells Lions & 1955 (City of Wells) Air Cadets, if you would like to sponsor a race or have a advert in the programme or a stall in the park please contact Philip Payne on 01749 670493 after 7pm.
The City of Wells Lions meet monthly to raise money for local causes and also meets socially, so if this interests you and you would like to help your local community why not come along and give it a try? For more information come and talk to us at our stall.
