In my opinion, the best kept beer in Wells with a couple of decent regular brews (Cheddar Potholder and Moor Merlins Magic) and frequent specially chosen guest ales plus proper cider. The log fire in the front bar is a treat if you can hog the closest table - consistently friendly staff, free WiFi and excellent food. Would make it my office if I could.

Lively, quality pub, right in the middle of Wells' High Street. The King's Head - "where medieval meets modern..."
Thanks Phil, very kind of you to say, we all work hard to make it a great place to visit and it's getting even better soon :o)

ReportThis is undoubtedly the best pub in Wells, and I don't say that lightly. there are many good pubs in Wells, but there is always one that stands out head and shoulders above the rest. Food, drink, service, menu, and staff make it a very pleasant place to visit. Regrettably I go there too infrequently, and I don't like missing out.

ReportBeautifully-kept ales including my staple: Potholer. The staff are all entertaining personalities and obviously really enjoy their work. The landlord Steve is as sharp as a fresh lemon, continually leading the way with new ideas to satisfy Wells' palate, musical and educational needs - eg you can now scan barcodes outside the pub to follow it on Twitter & Facebook - I call that pretty cutting edge! He also managed the soundstage for the recent Night on the Town in the City and the pub hosts numerous quality live music acts and business seminars. If it's happening in Wells, it's likely the King's Head is involved somewhere - yes, even with the WI, but that's another story.... ;)

A great place to have a few beers in the evening with your friends. The beer is well looked after and there is always a good choice. During the day a good place to hang out and get a bit of work done (using the free wi-fi) and eat. The perfect antidote to the pre-fab pub chain and a landlord with engages with the local community.

having somewhere to go at the end of a long week to enjoy a beer or two which offers great service, great beer and great music in my opinion is one of the necessities in life!. The Kings head has it is great to have somewhere like this in Wells. I have probably spent a small fortune in here over the years however worth every penny!

ReportThank you Alister for the kind words, it really gives the staff a buzz to know their hard work pays off...
The Kings Head in Wells High Street is a great spot for a few pints of quality, well-kept ale. The atmosphere and decor is that of a traditional pub, so this is a haven from souless chain pubs with pumping music. Proof that the great British boozer is still alive and kicking.
