How did everyone do with their A-Levels results? As we wait to hear from The Blue School and Wells Cathedral School, we'd love to hear from you how YOU did, what the future now holds for you.

Fingers crossed everyone got the results they needed :)

This year the number of university places has dropped and the number of applications is at record levels. This piles on the pressure to an already anxiety-laden time of year for students aiming to pursue further education. An estimated 150,000 of the 660,000 youngsters seeking a place may be forced to seek alternatives. There are an additional 45,000 applications pending from last year and a 23% increase in applications from over-40's so it's pretty clear that it's going to be a tense time for those whose grades are quite what they were hoping for.

Further uncertainty surrounds the availability of jobs on completing professional qualifications, BBC Radio Leeds presenter Andrew Edwards said "There are more people graduating from media-related courses this year than there are jobs in the whole of the British Media. That's a sobering figure."

Graduating students also need to have a pragmatic attitude to debt and question whether they have had enough of full-time education?

If next-steps have become more complicated for you, here are a number of measures you may consider trying: Consult your teachers on whether your marks were close enough to merit remarking and if so, get your application in as a priority, set aside time to visit new universities of if you need to chose a new course, consult UCAS, If you are not successful in getting onto any of your chosen universities or courses then you can go into clearing to give you a good chance at choosing from the courses which aren't yet fully subscribed.

There are thankfully alternatives available to students who chose to opt-out of university altogether, there seems to be a growing trend in a number of vocations including accountancy to follow on the job training while bringing-in a wage. Or take time out to consider your options on a gap year when you can earn a sufficient sum of money to finance some world travel in the meantime.

Whatever choices are before you, we wish you the very best of luck and if you would like to discuss your situation anonymously below with other local students in the same boat, please add your comments below.
