Wells residents get active!

With the holidays just around the corner, and trying to make a personal effort to tone-up a bit for the bikini season (see last week) I am looking for inspiration from our local clubs to become ‘fit for life’ and if not that long, at least until the end of August!

Archery, just one of a whole range of sports on offer in and around Wells
Progress has been slow in this first week, I pulled my back lifting the world’s heaviest t.v. into my car so there hasn’t been any significant exercise in a few days but I am using every creative muscle I have to maintain a constant supply of varied salad-based meals without boring myself rigid.
My first plan is to get some biking over the levels (can’t be dealing with hills just yet) and as soon as I have gained some stamina I would hope to join local rides organised by Bike City, although looking at the photos in their gallery I think it might be some time before I could be strong enough?!
Bupa outlines the physical & psychological benefits of exercise, taking care of motivation and WellsPeople is here to help out with the opportunity. There are plenty of sports clubs in Wells offering all sorts of activities to raise your fitness & spirits including :
City of Wells Bowling Club 01749 870416 ,
Wells & District Skittles League 01749 677653,
Wells Ladies’ Evening Skittles League 01934 741067,
Wells Boxing Club wellsboxing@tiscali.co.uk,
Priddy Caving – Wessex Cave Club 01749 672310,
Mendip Tae Kwon Do & Korean Kickboxing,
Wells & District Motorcycle Trials Club 0117 9326 7254,
Wells Ladies Netball Club 01749 677621,
Mendip Ramblers or The Mendip Society Ramblers,

If you are a member of a local sports club, why not share your enjoyment with us, tell us when you meet and what you get out of it.

There's also an informal ladies' running group which is on its summer break for now but restarts in September. It meets Monday, Wednesday and Fridays 6 pm at the Blue School car park. Just turn up, it's friendly and free. Any level runner welcome whether you're just starting to run or if you have been running a long time.
