Serious collision in Wells

Police are asking motorists to avoid the A371 East Somerset Way between Wells and Shepton Mallet following a serious road traffic collision.

Wells incident
The collision occurred on the Shepton Mallet by-pass about half a mile outside of Wells. The A371 is closed between the A39 Glastonbury Road/Priory Road junction and the B3139. A car and bike were in collision and emergency services are at the scene dealing with the incident. Road closures are in place and are expected to remain in place for some time.
Motorists are asked to avoid the area, find an alternative route and expect their journey to take longer than usual.

ReportI am sorry to say that the motorcyclist died at the scene and the driver of the Ford S-Max has been taken to hospital. At the moment, the road is still closed. Anyone who might have seen something are being asked to contact the Collision Investigation Unit on 0845 456 7000
